Katherine Heigl Taking a Hiatus from Grey's Anatomy

On the way out?

We've been hearing rumors forever now that Katherine Heigl would be leaving Grey's Anatomy. But then she renewed her contract for this season. Now we're hearing she's taking a 5-episode hiatus and we're wondering if this is the end for Izzie Stevens.

Katherine Heigl is taking a 5-episode hiatus from Grey's Anatomy to work on the Greg Berlanti-directed Life as We Know It, a romantic comedy. Heigl is a big movie star after all, and probably just doesn't have much time for little television series anymore.

We wonder how Grey's is going to handle the absence of Izzie for five episodes. Will she have a medical drama? Not to mention, her absence will occur in November, at the same time as Ellen Pompeo's maternity leave.

According to a spokesperson for Grey's Anatomy, "Katherine is taking time off to film a movie. The producers at Grey's have accommodated past things like that before. It's a cast of 13 and it is a true ensemble, so the show is mindful (of other commitments)." That's what they're saying anyway!

Katherine was recently heard complaining about how long her days are filming for Grey's and the president of ABC was less than impressed. We wonder if this is the beginning of the end for Katherine Heigl on Grey's Anatomy. Will you miss Izzie?
