Katy Perry Slams Lady Gaga Over Religion

SOMEONE is jealous by Lady Gaga's success...

Has anyone besides Katy Perry said Alejandro is offensive or blasphemous? Any religious people? Catholics believe we are eating Christ's body when we receive the Eucharist so I fail to see how swallowing rosary beads could be blasphemous symbol. On Larry King Gaga said she believes in Jesus. I think people always assume contemporary artists are trying to offend. Maybe shock but not offend.

Every generation has a genuis, basketball had Jordan now we have Kobe Bryant, the 80's and 90's had Madonna now there is the genious of Lady Gaga. I never listen to her music or bought her music but she is an artist and she is far more creative than the cookie cutter talent walking around out there now.

Katy Perry got her start by bragging about dipping a toe in the lesbian waters...it seems hypocritical now for her to tout her religious background and "tut tut" any other singer.

Using religion for entertainment is cheap? Because it's so easy to make fun? Fair enough.

Look who Katy Perry is engaged to. Now you want to talk offensive. After being with that yahoo how could she think anything is offensive. Lady GaGa's talent far exceeds Perry's. She may be a little on the strange side but she is talented. In my humble opinion it had more reference to sex than religion. I am older and have strong religious beliefs but I still enjoy GaGa.

I've seen worse religious imagery in movies. I do see the "Madonna" knockoff, but honestly, I'm baffled by what the video has to do with the song, I mean, the men look "Nazi"-like and she sings about 2 men, then there's the simulated sex that may just possibly be worse than the "Justify My Love" video, and she's thrown in religious imagery? I think she's weird anyways.

No one even knows for sure to whom Katy Perry is referring. I believe in giving people the benfit of the doubt before crucifying them. Some readers are just as bad as the people they attack.

Please! Lady Gaga isn't the biggest thing in the world. Katy Perry has the right to say WHATEVER she wants of anything and everyone, it's her mouth, her words. Anyway, I can't call Gaga a genius, she's another copy of anything long existent. There are BETTER and ORIGINAL artists than Gaga, and they don't cover them in here. Gaga is another attention whore of the media. Take her out of the spotlight, and it's an average singer/musician. And about blasphemy, wasn't she catholic? What the F*** is she doing those things, then? Blah! Like lots of people, they use religion to their advantage. Anyway, religion is BS, like good old George Carlin said. Definitively, people's so stupid, they think toucans are the best thing singing and all... There's too many people with awful taste!

They both suck. And now Christina Aguilera is trying desparately to regain her thunder as a result of Gaga's success. F$%ing pathetic. Only Kraftwerk can be pure genius.

I'm no fan of Katy Perry, i find her music annoying, but yeading through these comments makes me think that many have forgotten something called freedom of speech regardless of who Katy Perry is directing it at. And, yes, Gaga's trying to be a Madonna instead of inventing her own, unique image. In her Alejandro video she's almost going further to the left of Madonna in a Caligula-esque orgy sort of way.

The video does not make a joke of religion in my opinion. It depicts someone who perished from a broken heart after being used by humans as a toy. For some humans, even religion does not heal that type of pain (which is signified by the alleged swallowing of the rosary beads).

Christina A. was successful years before Gaga! They only thing they have in common is hair color. I do like Gaga's voice alot. She sounds a little like Madonna, but that does not mean she is copying her. However, I can see where the video could be offensive to catholics, (probably more offensive than Madonna's "Like a Prayer") even though I am not catholic. And, yes, Katy P has a right to her opinion. Again, I still do love Gaga's voice!

It has been commented on this video via MTV blogs the day it was released, and stated very clearly this video is not original by its origins- it was being taunted as a Madonna knock off/ rip off in the MTV America article-comparing it to “Vogue” when in fact “Vogue” is a rip off, or before this term was coined, a re:invention of Malcolm McLaren’s “Deep In Vogue” which humbly as he did for a lot of his career, Malcolm McLaren let the poor people or ones he found truly interesting star in the creation of works. Its not to type here that Steven Klein isn’t a genius at images, nor is Madonna the first to use others work or material. What is scary is the disjointed history the public perceives from not knowing the authenticity of art. Some people think sadly that front people write history or depict it- this is not true and will lead one to the evident surmise of why and how much of culture has lost its ingenuity and lack there of in perceptions. Lady Gaga has been detailed by myself and others as using art as an artifice to promote and profit, unfortunately this clouds her genuine talent and possibility of making something from scratch as artists, not commercial ploys actually do-do. What is noticed is the use of religious ceremony and practice- this is neither here nor there, as far as many are concerned imagery in religious institutions is nothing more than that, however the use of it in this context is intentional, the interpretation is, people must pay for their sins- this is a common catholic philosophical imprint,psychological path, archaic, no longer applying to homosexuals compared to 20 years prior, as much of society has evolved into an understanding of peoples rights, as opposed to oppressed sanctions imposed by a religious sect which at that time as the Catholic church did, used “God” to control the population through fear, as their then government guided “god’s” word as law, for “they” had little to none other means to instill law’s- so the use of this form of religious persecution instilled a level of populist control, “they” used sex, family and prophets/priests in order to get people to do the governments bidding and obey. Also the whole concept of females using gay’s is archaic in itself, 20 years ago again, it worked, its almost as if homosexuals are a malleable sub group while seeking superficial refuge in celebrity prototypes releases the bondage what many homosexuals experience while growing up in an oppressive church environment or dis connected family situations with sometimes government-less protection. “Gay’s” are easily susceptible to this sort of celebrity commencement and advertising technique as exhibited by Gaga or Madonna as they need validation in public to feel safe- these women feel the need to use this against world powers or institutions while requiring compensation for their so called “service work” its as if they use gay’s to make money from their inhibitions and fears while fraternizing with politics and sub communities, using art as a vice. Notice however, its about them and their own need for adulation, power, and financial requirements, generally they subjugate homosexuals while promoting “themselves” to ensure their satisfaction with monetary return. It seems to be something these females have learned in church- its called penance, and persons people will pay for either sins or public display of affections. Possibly had these persons not abused or intentionally slighted other artists, stepping on them and cashing in on the authenticity of original creations, then their “cause” would be effective without the rude ugly pretext of creating a further mess- as actually they perpetuate the actions of the church, while twisting it around to fit and suit self needs. Makes one wonder if they somewhere in the recess of their subconscious feel the same as the church and ones they try so desperately to insult of yes, beautify..in affect they glamorize the act as they pretend to claim to be diminishing its fruition. i have to agree that her alejandro video was a little disturbing... but bashing religion? maybe not. addressing religious corruption? possibly. Gaga even said "for god and for the gays." She's clearly not against christianity. maybe just the corrupt ones or the conservatives

What a waste of eight plus minutes. I expected so much more because of the hype. The video if anything was boring and the dancing was on the amateur side to say the least. If you haven't seen it yet, you are not missing anything.

You know, every celebrity has a role-model, or someone to start there imagination off. Even artists have that, especially people in the cartoon industry tend to get taught by other artists to branch off with there own style. Lady Gaga is an INDIVIDUAL which is why she gets bashed. She can make a simple song with a complicated story, if you go beyond getting pissed at the repeating of some words, other songs do that, it can make you sing along and enjoy it if you don't watch the video. Katy Perry might have been talking about something COMPLETELY different so people shouldn't side with things that they think have actually happened. The press exaggerate to shit. Madonna is good. Gaga is good. Katy Perry is good. It depends what you like and what you think, in my eyes it's equal. So stop hating over things so feeble, it doesn't matter even if she said it, personal opinion. But nothing is offensive in this video, it's expression of art and experimentation. It's about time people experimented with that border.
