Katy Perry Slams Lady Gaga Over Religion
"Alejandro" rubbing Katy Perry the wrong way.
There's a lot of talk about Lady Gaga's latest video. "Alejandro" is full of funeral, sado-masochism and even the swallowing of Rosary beads. Katy Perry's as grossed out as lots of you are.
Early buzz about Lady Gaga's video for "Alejandro" suggested that she'd simply ripped off Madonna's "Like A Prayer." Viewers will see some parallels, especially those that scream out for attention through offense. Readers across the Web are saying that they refuse to watch the video and that they won't listen to Lady Gaga's music anymore. Some artists are also voicing about their disgust with Gaga's latest antics.
Katy Perry's one of them. This week she logged onto Twitter to say this: "Using blasphemy as entertainment is as cheap as a comedian telling a fart joke." While readers are pointing out that it's not certain Katy Perry is pointing this comment at Lady Gaga, it does seem likely. While she's morally liberal in her own work, it's known that Katy Perry was raised in a very Christian household (her parents are ministers and Katy grew up singing gospel, even releasing Christian albums before going mainstream). To our knowledge, Katy Perry has never outwardly used religion as part of her gimmick.
Of course the choice is yours -- to watch "Alejandro" or not. If you have eight minutes, it's definitely entertaining...but you may find yourself with a visceral reaction too.
