Kellan Lutz Almost Played Edward Cullen

Kellan Lutz says, "I'm so happy with Emmett."

While it may be difficult to imagine anyone other than Robert Pattinson playing his breakthrough, iconic role as Edward Cullen in the Twilight Saga, Kellan Lutz has revealed that the part almost went to him!

When he went to audition for Twilight, Lutz says, "[The casting agents] said to me, 'Okay, are you ready to audition for Edward?'"

Lutz says, "I said, 'I don't want to play Edward. He's too complex, too depressing for me.'" So the producers asked him if he was interested in reading for Emmett, whom he says better resembled "one of those fun-loving characters that I like to play." These days, he's very happy with his choice. Kellan Lutz says that Robert Pattinson is the only person who could play the part of Edward Cullen -- or the part of Robert Pattinson, for that matter! "Fame is fame," Lutz says, "And Rob is handling it like a champ. Everything that comes with this whole phenomenon is breathtaking. I don't think anybody could prepare you for something like this."

"I'm so happy with Emmett," Kellan Lutz added. "I don't care to be famous."
