New Mom Chooses Barack and Mitt as Baby Names

Naming a child is usually a well-thought out process for parents, but for one mom, the choice was easy -- she only looked to the 2012 U.S. election for inspiration.

She named her twins after Barack Obama and Mitt Romney.

Millicent Owuor was inspired by the United States election, even though she lives in southwest Kenya.

Owuor gave birth to the twins in the village of Kogelo, with Reuters reporting Owuor said, "I named the first twin Barack and the second one Mitt."

Clever or ridiculous?

I understand Owuor's Obama choice, as the President's father was born in her village and the residents celebrated Obama's re-election.

She wasn't the only one naming her child after President Obama, as other babies born at the nearby hospital were also named after our newly re-elected president.

Owuor is the only one, however, who named her child Mitt.

According to Kenya's Standard newspaper, the new mom said she chose the names to remember election day and Obama's re-election. Wonder which kid will end up being more popular.
