Can You Pull This One Off?

Center-parted hair is notoriously challenging for the average woman. If you have the slightest roundness to your face, a center part can be your worst enemy. Since Kim Kardashian pulls off the look so well, I thought I'd review what face shapes can rock this style best.

Simply trace your face's outline in the mirror with lipstick to determine the exact shape of your shape, and then go from there. Mine, for example, is most definitely round: ovals fare much better when it comes to center parts.

You can probably work this look to your advantage if your face is of the oval persuasion, and in both sleek and curly styles. Simply part your hair ramrod-straight down the middle, and then aim for a sleek look first to test the waters. With a boar-bristle brush and shine serum, tame flyaways and see how the look suits you before heading for the curlier side of things. Experiment with Kim Kardashian-like waves by using a jumbo roller on blow-dried hair, and misting with heat protectant as you go. Think long, loose, and casual.

If you have a square or round face, and you really like the look of a center part, try my halfway suggestion: part your hair just slightly off-center, instead of the full-on side part. You'll notice that your face shape is not fully emphasized when you compromise like this. Medium-thick hair works best for this look, while you might need to spend some time fluffing less volumized tresses.

If your face is long or rectangular, experiment away with a center part! I've seen it done successfully before, especially if you add casual waves or curls in a style similar to Kim's. Think "model hair," and browse pictures of the runway for more inspiration--Victoria's Secret models also work this look regularly, and many of them have longer, thinner faces.
