Lady Gaga Gained 25 Pounds the Old-Fashioned Way: 'I Love Eating Pasta and Pizza' She Says [PHOTOS]
She's Not, as the Rumors Have Persisted, Pregnant
The photos don't lie, especially when she's wearing nothing more than a meat corset and matching meat booties: Lady Gaga has packed at least 25 pounds onto her formerly slender 5'1" frame.
But the pop diva is not pregnant (as Kelly Osbourne theorized this week) … she says she just likes to eat.
Fans were surprised by photos that emerged from Gaga's concert in Amsterdam earlier this week, photos that make the singer's weight gain obvious.
"I'm dieting right now, because I gained, like, 25 pounds," Gaga said in an interview with radio host Elvis Duran before she kicked off her European tour (as reported by The Huffington Post). "And you know I really don't feel bad about it, not even for a second. I have to be on such a strict diet constantly. It's hard because it's a quite vigorous show, so I tend to bulk up, get muscular, and I really don't like that. So I'm trying to find a new balance."
Gaga also specified that, despite rumors that pot smoking or, as a report at Radar Online suggested, her love of whiskey and vodka is responsible for her weight gain, it's actually her love of Italian food that led to her fuller figure.
"I love eating pasta and pizza," she told Duran. "I'm a New York Italian girl. That's why I have been staying out of New York. My father opened a restaurant … it's so freaking delicious, but I'm telling you I gain five pounds every time I go in there. So my dad wants me to eat at the restaurant, and I'm, like, 'I've got to go where I can drink green juice.'"
Gaga, refreshingly, doesn't deny that she works hard to maintain her pop star look; unlike some celebs who want us to believe their size 0 bods are effortless, Gaga has detailed her very strict eating and workout habits.
In fact, earlier this year she drew criticism when she tweeted, "Just killed back-to-back spin classes. Eating a salad dreaming of a cheeseburger. Pop singers don't eat. I was born this way."
Of course, the people who criticized her for admitting what we all know -- that maintaining that shape, for most people, is hard work -- are probably the same ones calling her fat now.
