Lady Gaga Loses Breakthrough Award to Gloriana at AMAs
Let's hear it for the underdogs.
The four members of Nashville's newest country music sensation, Gloriana, are going to have to figure out how to share. The group stunned the music world when they beat out favorite Lady Gaga to capture the award for Breakthrough Artist of the Year at last night's American Music Awards.
Brothers Tom and Mike Gossin, Rachel Reinert and Cheyenne Kimball comprise the band, which only just released its first album in August. Their debut song, "Wild at Heart," was a top 20 hit on the country music charts and they were nominated for music video of the year at the CMA's.
But their big win during last night's upset of "Poker Face" singer Lady Gaga. "Hands down, we thought Lady Gaga was gonna win," said Reinert. "We just freaked out when they called our name."
Later, the band had a chance to give thanks to the young starlet who gave them their big break. Gloriana was selected by Taylor Swift to open on her tour. "We're so thankful to Taylor," Reinert said.
.
Swift even telephoned the band from London to congratulate them. "She called us just now and says, 'OMG, I always believed you could do it. I just didn't think you could do it,'" said Tom Gossin backstage.
The only problem now is how the quartet will share the award. "We're gonna have to glue it to the front of our bus," singer Cheyenne Kimball joked.
