Lenny Kravitz Set to Play Marvin Gaye in Biopic

Movie Will Focus on Marvin Gaye During the 1980s

Rocker Lenny Kravitz has beaten out dozens of actors for the starring role in an upcoming biopic about Marvin Gaye.

According to ABCNews.com, production on the as yet untitled film will get underway in early 2013 and the script will focus on Gaye's European travels during the 1980s when he was trying to overcome addictions to several substances.

Kravitz, who had notable turns in both "Precious" and "The Hunger Games" has been eyeing the project for a while. He's also reportedly slated to appear in a film about jazz great Nina Simone's life that will star Zoe Saldana.
