Teen Pop Star Confirms He's Currently in the Running

Look, we get it. After agreeing to pay Mariah Carey an unprecedented $18 million for her upcoming gig on American Idol, there probably isn't a lot of dough left in the coffers to hire a second major celebrity to judge the show. But surely producers can come up with someone as affordable and a lot more interesting than a Jonas Brother, can't they?

Nick Jonas, the band's youngest member, confirms he's currently a top contender. "The rumors are true," he tweeted. "I am being considered to be a judge on American Idol. It would be a dream come true if it happens."

Sigh. We're not saying the kid isn't talented. And we're sure, given his age and experience, he'd be a great peer mentor to the contestants. But he's only 19. Is he really experienced enough to sit in a judge's seat? True, X Factor hired Demi Lovato, also 19, to co-judge alongside pop icon Britney Spears, but Lovato's already shown she's got what it takes to survive the knock-down, drag-out music industry. It's clear she's not going anywhere. The Joans Brothers, meanwhile, haven't released a CD since 2010 and, frankly, have yet to prove they have more staying power than the average aging boy band.

Not to mention the fact that Nick, sweet as he is, probably isn't aggressive enough to go head to head with Mariah Carey. If the two ever faced off at the judges table, she'd eat him for lunch.

We're thinking the job needs someone with more industry chops and a stronger personality...but the producers may disagree. What will happen? Stay tuned!

Beth, get your head out of your ass and your prejudices! Nick is no average 19-year-old, nor music performer. He's so mature he's said to be 19 going on 30...besides, he turns 20 next month. He's performed as a singer since he was 7, both alone and in groups; he's written songs, for himself, his brothers, and others, both men and women; he's produced records, for himself, his brothers, and others, both men and women; he's a Broadway veteran, with nearly 10 years' experience, one as the lead in a major musical; he's acted in movies and on TV; he's been recognized with awards in the music biz, both domestically and internationally. You're an idiot to think he's not well qualified to be an Idol judge!
