Letterman Blackmailer Was Just Pitching Screenplay?
From Our Friends at PopEater
The newest development in David Letterman's mix-up with Joe Halderman's alleged blackmail plot is a real doozy. According to Robert J. Halderman's lawyer, he was innocently trying to shop his screenplay around, not receive $2 million in exchange for keeping mum about Letterman's romances backstage.
I don't get it! I respect the judicial system and rights to a fair trial, but with all due respect: does Halderman's lawyer think we're dumb? Let's run through some of the evidence, as presented by the prosecutors and then by PopEater, and ponder:
*There are two taped convos, say prosecutors, between Halderman and Letterman's lawyer. Halderman received a faux $2 million check and was arrested after he tried to deposit it. Who demands $2 million for a purely commercial transaction, accompanied by alleged threats?
*The screenplay synopsis was accompanied by photos and diary excerpts from one of Letterman's flings, say prosecutors.
*Letterman's lawyer commented that "It's classic blackmail, no matter how Mr. Halderman's lawyer wants to dress it up," while Gerald Shargel, Halderman's lawyer, said that it was nothing more than a "commercial transaction."
Does Halderman's lawyer's reasoning surprise you? Read what the peeps at PopEater think.
