Lil Wayne "Fully Committed" to Skateboarding

Lil Wayne may not be retiring from rapping altogether, but he is planning to take a break.

Why? Because he's looking to jump full-on into skateboarding, of all things.

In a new interview with DJ Drama on Atlanta's Hot 107.9, Lil Wayne explained that he's burned out a bit, noting, "Being me, I always feel like I ain't done nothing yet, so I'm always looking for the next thing to do. It does get pretty boring when it comes to just the rapping and all that type of stuff."

He added, "I've been doing it since I was 8 and I'm about to be 30 in September."

With new music coming out August 15 (mixtape Dedication 4), it seems like the perfect opportunity for him to give skateboarding a go, as he puts "rap on the backburner" to "be fully committed" to skating.

Lil Wayne said that he's really into skateboarding, explaining, "I picked up the skateboard and I thought it'd be a hobby and what happened is it's a lifestyle. In order to be fully committed, you have to live that lifestyle. With these young kids now, you have to be about that life. It's kind of putting rap on the back burner. Rap is taking a backseat to skating."

Overall, he thinks his fans will appreciate him taking a break, explaining, "I believe my fans deserve some peace from me. I'll be on my skateboard in the meantime."

To support his new love of skateboarding, Lil Wayne has teamed with Mountain Dew to develop a skate park in New Orleans' Lower 9th Ward Village.

It's called DEWeezy, of course.
