Biography

Angelina Jolie Voigt was born in Los Angeles, California on June 4, 1975 to actor Jon Voigt and actress Marcheline Bertrand. She has one younger sibling, brother James Haven. She has 6 children with actor and current beau Brad Pitt: three biological children, Shiloh, Knox, and Vivienne, and three adopted children, Maddox, Pax, and Zahara.

Once her parents got divorced, Jolie's mother moved the kids to Palisides, New York where they stayed until Jolie was 11. At that time, they moved back to Los Angeles where Jolie decided she wanted to act. Her mother enrolled her at the Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute where she stayed for two years learning the craft. She dropped out of classes at the age of 14.

In her teen years, Jolie did some modeling and was featured in several music videos. It was in 1993 when she got her first leading role in a feature film - Cyborg 2. (Her feature film debut was actually in 1982 alongside her father in Lookin' to Get Out. She would take an 11-year hiatus before returning to the big screen.) In the next few years, she also starred in Without Evidence, Hackers co-starring Jonny Lee Miller, Love Is All There Is, Mojave Moon with Anne Archer, Foxfire, Playing God with David Duchovny, and the made-for-television movie, True Women.

It was on the set of Hackers that Jolie met and fell in love with Jonny Lee Miller. She married him on March 28, 1996. Their union lasted three years and their divorce was final on February 3, 1999. Jolie remains on good terms with Miller.

In 1997, Jolie was cast as Cornelia Wallace in the film George Wallace. She gained great reviews, won a Golden Globe, and caught the eye of casting agents around Hollywood. The following year, she played supermodel Gia Carangi in the HBO original film, Gia. Jolie won her second Golden Globe and her first Screen Actor's Guild Award for the role and was nominated for an Emmy.

Over the next few years she starred in Hell's Kitchen with Rosanna Arquette, Playing by Heart with Sean Connery and Gillian Anderson, Pushing Tin with Billy Bob Thornton and John Cusack, and The Bone Collector with Denzel Washington.

Jolie married another co-star on May 5, 2000. Billy Bob Thorton, one of the leading men in Pushing Tin, became her second husband after the pair met on the set. The pair was very open about their relationship and they gained lots of publicity after wearing vials of each other's blood around their necks. Their marriage ended on May 27, 2003.

Jolie won an Academy Award for her next role, sociopath Lisa Rowe, in the 1999 film Girl, Interrupted with Winona Ryder. She also won her third Golden Globe and a second Screen Actor's Guild Award. She followed up that film with Gone in 60 Seconds, an action film co-starring Nicholas Cage. That movie was her highest grossing movie to date, earning more than $230 million internationally.

Between 2001 and 2005, Jolie made a string of films including the very successful Lara Croft movies. The first film, Lara Croft: Tomb Raider, earned more than $275 million worldwide. The second didn't bring in quite as much but still was considered a success with revenue of over $150 million. These two movies, along with Gone in 60 Seconds, solidified her as a female action movie star. She also starred in the 2001 movie Original Sin with Antonio Banderas, Life or Something Like It with Edward Burns, Beyond Borders, Taking Lives with Ethan Hawke, Shark Tale (voice work), Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow with Jude Law and Gwyneth Paltrow, and Alexander with Colin Farrell.

In 2005, Mr. and Mrs. Smith was released. Jolie was cast opposite Brad Pitt in the film about a married couple of assassins. The film earned a whooping $478 million worldwide and was one of the top-grossing movies of 2005. But even bigger than the revenue of the movie was the buzz surrounding her and Pitt's relationship while filming. Pitt was married to actress Jennifer Aniston at the time and their rumored infidelity fueled many tabloid magazines and gossip websites for months.

Soon after Aniston filed for divorce in 2005, Pitt and Jolie began to be photographed together. The pair is still together today and have six children: three biological children, Shiloh, Knox, and Vivienne, and three adopted children, Maddox, Pax, and Zahara.

After Mr. and Mrs. Smith, Jolie starred in The Good Shepard with Matt Damon, A Mighty Heart as Mariane Pearl, Wanted with James McAvoy and Morgan Freeman, Kung Fu Panda (voice work), and Changeling co-starring John Malkovich and directed by Clint Eastwood. Kung Fu Panda grossed more than $632 million worldwide making it her highest-grossing film to date. Jolie was nominated for another Academy Award for her role in Changeling. Jolie recently finished filming the 2010 thriller Salt in New York City.
