Biography

Robert Thomas Pattinson was born on May 13, 1986 in London, England. At age 12 he began modeling, which he did successfully for 4 years. Pattinson admits his modeling career dried up when his appearance became more masculine. It was when he stopped getting jobs that he pursued acting starting with some work at an amateur theater with the Barnes Theater Company.

Pattinson's first film role was in the Reese Witherspoon film Vanity Fair in 2004, though his scenes were cut for the theatrical release. They are now included in the DVD version. After that, he landed another supporting role in the 2004 TV movie Ring of the Nibelungs.

The first big break for Pattinson was landing the role of Cedric Diggory in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. That also led to appearing again as Cedric in the next Potter franchise film, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.

But the world was really introduced to Pattinson when he was cast as the undead heartthrob Edward Cullen in the massively-anticipated screen adaption of Stephenie Meyer's Twilight alongside Kristen Stewart. After beating out more than 3,000 other actors for the lead role, he was launched in superstardom. He reprises his role in the second film of the Twilight saga, New Moon.

One of the fringe side effects of his life-changing role as Twilight's Edward is his newfound placement in the gossip magazines. His rumored on-again, off-again romance with Twilight co-star Kristen Stewart has been on the front pages of most weeklies as well as featured on daily celebrity blogs since filming of the movies began.
