Fun Fact: Goodman Will Pee In Your Air Conditioner.

As one of the best comedies on television, NBC's Community has set the bar high for the premiere of its third season on September 22. But lucky for viewers, it has a secret weapon: John Goodman. We sat down with the veteran actor, and perennial class clown/Soup guy Joel McHale, to talk about what's in store for fans this semester.

Goodman, 59, finally returns to television comedy for his first role since 2000's short-lived Normal, Ohio, and nearly 25 years after his Golden Globe winning role (he was nominated for an Emmy seven times for his portrayal of Dan Connor) on the classic sitcom Roseanne.

On Community he plays Vice Dean Laybourne, ruthless leader of an air conditioning repair school that butts heads with Greendale's very own costume-connoisseur Dean Pelton.

So what kind of a person is Laybourne?

"He's got (Pelton's) privates in a vice," Goodman tells us. "He's an unseen, unknown force on the campus. Dean Pelton was sowing his oats and now he's having them fed to him."

Sounds properly menacing, which is not unusual for Goodman's recent roles. But as an actor, the Big Lebowski star says it's good to get back into funny stuff. Especially with Community.

"They're a wonderful ensemble," he said. "It's not a typical situational comedy. Its risky, and its a combination of great things. Im just dying to get back into comedy again. I've been doing pretty heavy guys lately, so it's nice to lighten up."

Speaking of lightening up, Goodman joked about his "extensive" air conditioning repair experience.

"Yes, I know how to turn them on and off, pick up a phone when they break," he said. "I know not to urinate in them ... unless its someone else's air conditioner."

So while Goodman fills out the villain's boots, what can we expect from Community's central hero, McHale's snarky disbarred lawyer Jeff Winger?

McHale, who reveals his character's relationship with Annie will definitely get more romantic, says Jeff has "a lot of father issues" which will be dealt with and that season 3 will "put him through hell."

"The episodes are action packed," McHale added. "It's like filming a movie every week. There's so much stuff to shoot, and so many specialty shots. It's great, and it's as densely packed as a wonderful lasagna. It's like a beehive fruitcake lasagna that's put into a blender."

The third season also finds Jeff clashing with the new biology teacher, played by The Wire's Michael K. Williams. McHale says his own high school days in science class didn't go so well either.

"I did everything to avoid all the sciences because I was so horrible at them," he admitted. "My favorite day was the last day of class, and hopefully I had passed."

Even though Community has taken off as one of the best shows on television, McHale has no plans to stop hosting duties over at The Soup on E!

"I love doing it, and I have a contract so they would kill me," he said. "It's difficult enough to have anything work on television, so I wasnt about to leave something that's working. All my friends are there. It's a real family. And they've made the schedule work, so no one was forcing me to leave. I mean, who knew what was going to happen with Community when we started it two years ago? I was raised Catholic so i think at any moment the sky could open and i could be crushed by, I don't know, a giant bird that died in midflight. So I still keep my paper route."

Catch McHale's adult second job, the season 3 premiere of Community, when it airs on September 22 on NBC.
