Lindsay Lohan Fashion Trendsetter?

Tabloid queen scoops the industry with legging line.

When Lindsay Lohan launched her successful 6126 leggings line last fall, there were more than a few skeptics. Lindsay Lohan as designer? No way. Leggings for $100? Not in these tough economic times. It turns out the lovelorn star was on to something.

Lindsay's high-priced leggings collection has been flying off shelves since it's debut in October at retailers Intuition, Henri Bendel, Nordstrom, Intermix and Lisa Kline. The 6126 collection includes footless tights in a variety of fabrics, textures and styles featuring zippers, foil prints, yarn dyes and sexy metallic and screen prints. The line retails from $40 to $140.

Lindsay had a leg up on the legwear trend and designers are following suit. The legging has transitioned from a basic black accessory popularized in the Eighties to a fashionable part of a modern wardrobe, WWD reported on Monday. The magazine reported high-end designers are responding to the leggings' recent surge in popularity by branching out with novelty styles and luxurious materials, such as cashmere and Italian leather. Leggings with special details, such as studding or equestrian stirrup bottoms, have been especially popular this season.

She may be unlucky in love but don't count Lindsay out in the fashion department. This summer the actress will launch five styles of tights, including matte and shiny blacks and nudes to her legwear brand. According to reports, Lindsay has her sight set on many more fashion pursuits in the near future.
