How can Gaga be new and fresh when madonna did it and is doing it now? she is not. Madonna is right. She can't be unique if she is a younger version of madonna. I love Madonna, and yes, Gaga is copying elements of Madonna's recipe for success. The questions are: does that matter? No. Is Gaga unique? Very. Is she the 'new Madonna'? Nope (and I highly doubt she wants to be).

I thought they were cool with each other but it looks like Gaga's success is starting to get under Madonna's craw. On the one hand, I believe Gaga totally took her schtick from Madonna. She can actually play instruments and sings a little better (not much better) than Madge. However, I give the edge to Madonna by a large margin. Madonna defined a generation and was able to navigate though several different styles and genres to stay relevant in the music biz. So far, Gaga is just a strange girl with a few hits. Bt I don't see tons of women running around dressing like her like they did during the days of the Material Girl. Gaga can't carry Maddy's jock strap. Can't wear it either.

If Gaga *MUST* be compared to someone, I think she is like a less crazy version of Courtney Love, honestly. Gaga came from and started in the rock scene. Gaga never viewed Madonna as an inspiration until interviews *offered* Madges name to her, and then she was like, "hm, I guess I can see that comparison". Just watch any of her early interviews. Madonna was original because the things that made her famous - the sexuality, the crazy sexy outfits, the pointy bras and bleached platinum blonde mane - had never been done before in the music world. She pushed the envelope. Gaga is simply a good businesswoman. She has figured out that what makes for wild success in the music business is catchy tunes (she's basicaly combining 80s music with some cool new dance beats and lyrics that usually make no sense) and even crazier and sexier outfits. Although I have to say she's failing on the sexy end of things. However, my prediction is that she will not have Madonna's staying power in the long run.

Gaga, like Madonna twenty years ago, is the music industry's "love/hate" icon. She is "avante-garde" and her music is tasteless. Madonna kissed black "jesus" to stir up trouble twenty years ago and Gaga showed us her womanly parts last year. Why? because they are lonely, lost individuals desperate for attention that have a little talent. The music industry thrives of that type of person. I used to hate what Lady Gaga stood for, which is nothing, with the occasionally trendy nonsense thrown in, But now I just feel sorry for her and all the people that think she is great.
