Malia And Sasha Obama Spare Turkey's Life
Obama girls demonstrate their love of animals again.
With certain Hollywood personalities under fire for mistreatment of animals (Kate Beckinsale, Paris Hilton), it's nice to see that the most influential figures in America are showing a repsect for living creatures' lives. Malia and Sasha Obama spared the life of a turkey on Thanksgiving, making the Obamas the third White House family to let the wild one run free.
A turkey named Courage was hand-delivered to the White House's North Portico for the option of killing and eating on Thanksgiving. Malia and Sasha Obama intervened and said that Courage deserved to live, and the White House higher-ups -- especially their dad Barack -- heard their plea. Obama joked, "I was planning to eat this sucker." However he granted the bird a pardon, saying, "Thanks to the interventions of Malia and Sasha, Courage will be spared this terrible - and delicious - fate."
This fowl-minded kindness was also demonstrated by George Bush two decades ago, President Obama said, as well as John F. Kennedy in the 1960s.
When National Turkey Federation turned up to the White House with Courage and heard the Obamas' decision, they then continued on with him to Disneyland, where he was set to serve the role of the Grand Marshal of the Thanksgiving parade.
