"Mary Tyler Moore" Co-Stars to Reunite on "Hot in Cleveland"
Mary Tyler Moore and Former Co-Stars To Reunite for a Special Cause
She can still turn the world on with her smile and, on September 4th, Mary Tyler Moore will do just that -- and, she hopes, even more..
Moore, along with her former "Mary Tyler Moore Show" co-stars, Cloris Leachman (Phyllis), Georgia Engle (Georgette), Valerie Harper (Rhoda Morgenstern) and Betty White (Sue Ann Nivens) will appear on a very special episode of White's TV Land show, "Hot in Cleveland."
While the show taped back in April, just weeks after Harper revealed that she'd been diagnosed with an extremely rare type of brain cancer, the 73 year-old actress couldn't help but wonder whether the reunion had something -- or everything -- to do with her health.
At the time, Harper made no bones of the fact that the reunion had been more about laughter than tears -- despite her grave illness. "And the tears come up, but they're part of the laughter," she noted. "Did you ever laugh 'til you cry?"
While the actresses won't be portraying their "Mary Tyler Moore Show" characters, (a feat that would be hard to pull off since White's character on the show has nothing to do with her Nivens character), the storyline has Elka (White) and Mamie Sue (Engel) reuniting with their long-lost bowling teammates: Diane (Moore), Peg (Leachman) and Angie (Harper).
But, fans of the original, groundbreaking series shouldn't despair, although they're playing new roles, "each will provide a nod to the roles the actresses played on the seminal sitcom.
Look for the penultimate episode of season 4 of "Hot in Cleveland" to air on TVLand on Wednesday, September 4th at 10pm.
