Damon's Chrome Dome Isn't for Play

Lots of Hollywood actors keep their hair long and their beards scraggly in case a sudden film role demands it, but this week Matt Damon debuted the opposite look while out on a bike ride with his family. Today Damon's shocking fans by going totally bald -- is this how he's enjoying some leisurely time off?

Not exactly. Matt Damon may be playing family man this week alongside wife Luciana, as Mr. and Mrs. Damon took two of their three daughters, Isabella and Gia out for a family bike ride; but the minute the 40-year-old dad's helmet came off, it was clear Damon's devoted to his work. So devoted, in fact, that he's completely shaved off his short-cropped brown hair to reveal a freshly-shorn scalp for a new role.

Damon plays the lead in the 2013 sci-fi thriller Elysium with Jodie Foster co-starring. Details about the flick are scarce, but we do know that it's requiring its cast to relocate Canada and then Mexico all summer. Looks like the paparazzi will be following all over North America this summer, which Damon is sure to dispise. He told reporters this week that the public pressure on celebrities is just no good for their families: "I have friends who are like prisoners, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. They can't just go someplace. If they go for a walk, it turns into an international incident." How protective of his family is dad Damon? "Ever since I found my wife and we had children, my whole life revolves around that," he said.

For sure: Damon is so concerned with how is family fares that he brought his own mother, Nancy, to Canada to help care for the Damon daughters. This Hollywood dad may have lost his hair, but he still has his head on alright.
