Maura Tierney Pulls Out of Parenthood
Maura Tierney played Dr. Abby Lockhart on the hit show ER and was scheduled to start filming a new series on NBC called Parenthood. However, Tierney was recently diagnosed with breast cancer and we have just learned that she has pulled out of the new show to undergo treatment.
Tierney's spokesman said, "Ms. Tierney and her doctors remain confident that the outcome of her treatments will be positive. She is deeply disappointed that she will not be able to rejoin such a highly respected, talented, fun and funny group of actors and wishes to thank Jason Katims and NBC for their patience and support."
The network also released the following statement, "While we are saddened that Maura Tierney won't be able to continue in her current role in Parenthood, our main concern is for her quick and full recovery. Our thoughts and best wishes are with her."
The NBC series Parenthood is based on the 1989 movie starring Steve Martin. Tierney was set to play the role of the sister-in-law, the same role Dianne Wiest had in the movie version. Parenthood was originally supposed to start filming in July and be part of the fall lineup, but Tierney's operation pushed back the dates. The show will now be starting mid-season, yet no official date has been announced.
Although it's disappointing Maura Tierney will not be on the show, we think it's great that she is putting her health and treatment first. This must be such a stressful and scary time for Tierney and we wish her all the best with her treatments and recovery.
