Megan Fox and Jennifer Aniston Bomb at the Box Office
Who could've known?
Hollywood can be a tricky place. Just when you think you've made it big, it turns around and bites you in the butt. Megan Fox and Jennifer Aniston experienced their own taste of Tinsel Town's fickleness this weekend as both of their films, Love Happens and Jennifer's Body, tanked at the box office.
As Jennifer Aniston's third film this year, Love Happens may be a sign that audiences could use a break from Jenny and her love-lorn ways. The film finished in fourth place at the box office with a slim $8.5 million.
But more surprising perhaps was the paltry showing from Megan Fox's Jennifer's Body. Written by Juno director Diablo Cody, the film sought to bank on hottie Megan Fox in the lead role but instead found itself choking on its own hype. It finished in a distant fifth with only $6.8 million.
Still, studio execs were quick to spin it in a positive light. "You always hope for more," said Chris Aronson, senior vice president of domestic distribution for Fox, "but it's a modestly budgeted film that will ultimately be profitable for us."
Jennifer's Body, about a demonic cheerleader who get her kicks from eating tender man-flesh, may not have found its niche, but that doesn't mean Megan Fox is done for. Far from it actually.
"It may be a matter of just choosing the right projects for her," said Hollywood.com box office-analyst Paul Dergarabedian. "She's trying to find a world beyond Transformers, and she will. She's young and has a lot of promise."
