Men Are Quicker to Say "I Love You"
Hi, my name's Johnny... I love you.
If you always thought most men had problems saying "I Love You," think again. According to a new study, men take an average of seven months to speak the three little words to their partners. Women take an average of eight.
In the study, commishioned by Stella magazine, about 2,000 men and women who have dated in the past year were interviewed.
Oliver James, a clinical psychologist who contributed in the research, said the findings support earlier research that shows men tend to fall in love faster, while women take it a little more seriously.
"This is because women mature sooner than men and develop to be more hard-nosed, realistic and in touch with their emotions," he said.
"So when a man says ''I love you,'' it might be his way of dealing with a lot of complex, difficult emotions that he doesn''t really understand, whereas when a woman says it, it might carry a greater weight," said the doctor. "The classic cliché is that men use love to get sex and women use sex to get love."
Wait, what? Here I was thinking men were beginning to redeem themselves by proving they can say "I love you," yet it turns out they just use it to get in a lady's pants. And considering that's what it's used for, I'm actually surprised it takes them seven months to say it.
