Michael Jackson Being Sued by "Thriller" Director
Is there anyone who hasn't sued him at this point?
On Monday, we told you about the "excellent" plans to make Michael Jackson's video-hit from the '80s, "Thriller," into a musical, but the news is not so great for the gloved one today. He's being sued. Again. No, this is not another child-touching suit, but rather one brought on by a money-grubbing director.
John Landis, who was the director of flicks like Animal House and An American Werewolf in London, wrote and directed the famous video (and the entire 14-minute mini-film that accompanied it) for the track back in the day. But he's not pleased with The King of Pop, and claims that Jackson has been withholding royalties from the clip for years.
The suit alleges that:
- Jackson/Optimum Productions concealed profits made from "Thriller" and the 2005 making-of documentary.
- Jackson failed to pay Landis 50% of the video and documentary's net profits for the past four years, as stipulated by a 1983 contract.
- There was "fraudulent, malicious and oppressive conduct" toward Landis by Jackson and his employees.
Jackson's camp has been entirely silent on the matter. Only time will tell if we can look forward to musical zombies shuffling and jumping in tandem, or if Landis will scuttle the entire thing with his thirst for human flesh. Uh, I mean, money.
