Michael Jackson's White Glove Sells for $350,000
For every king, a handsome bid.
Michael Jackson had quite a weekend. The late great King of Pop won four awards at the AMAs last night, and earlier in the day a collection of his most notable memorabilia, including his trademark white glove, sold for hundreds of thousands of dollars. Too bad he wasn't there to see it.
The iconic white glove, which Mikey debuted during his first Moonwalk in 1983, was the big seller at the auction, raking in a whopping $350,000. Hoffman Ma, a business man from Hong Kong, won the bid on behalf of a resort hotel in Macau. That's way more than the pre-sale estimate for the glove of about $50,000.
Another famous MJ item that went up for sale was the famous black leather jacket he wore during his "Bad" Tour in 1989. It sold for $225,000, more than 20 times what auctioneers expected. Handwritten lyrics to Beat It sold for $60,000, and one of his dancing fedoras sold for $22,000.
The auction, held at the Hard Rock Cafe in New York's Times Square, was titled "Music Icons" and included memorabilia from artists like Elvis Presley and The Beatles, but Jackson was far and away the biggest draw.
