Michael Phelps Will Still Be Seen In His Speedo
No sacky for the wacky tobacky.
Michael Phelps' sponsors are sticking by him. Speedo and Omega, with whom Michael has lucrative endorsement deals, have expressed support for the Olympic swimmer in the wake of BongGate '09.
Phelps is still tops with with the companies despite being caught with face firmly implanted in pipe. Speedo said: "Michael Phelps is a valued member of the Speedo team and a great champion. We will do all that we can to support him and his family."
Omega seconded that emotion, calling the scandal a "nonissue" and saying it was "strongly committed" to its relationship with Phelps.
Phelps also got some shout-outs from his Olympic teammates. Mom-phenom Dara Torres told the AP, "This in no way, shape or form diminishes anything he's done." And Mark Spitz, whose Olympic record Phelps broke in Beijing, said he feels badly for Michael.
We feel kind of badly for Phelps too. The eyes of the world are upon him for doing what many a 23-year-old is wont to do on a Saturday night. And if you can't trust the dudes with the weed, who can you trust? Er, uh...
At any rate, we're glad to know that Michael will still be sportin' that Speedo. We suggest he slip into it right about now. More focus on the impressive torso means less focus on that impressive bong rip.
