How to not spend $150,000.

Sarah Palin may want to get some shopping tips from Michelle Obama, because she could be saving a lot of money.

On Monday night, Lady Obama appeared on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno in a lovely yellow ensemble. When questioned about her wardrobe, Obama responded, "Actually, this is a J. Crew ensemble. You can get some good stuff online."

We thought it would be fun to tally up her outfit and see where she lands on the Palin spending spectrum. Obama's grand total? $305.99. Now we know it's not Valentino, but she looks pretty darn good.

Want the look? We shopped it for you.

  • J.Crew, Crystal-button Colorblock Cardigan, $89.99, jcrew.com
  • J.Crew, Pembridge-Dot Pencil Skirt, $148, jcrew.com
  • J.Crew, Solid Silk Elizabeth Halter, $68, jcrew.com

not trying to be mean, but you can tell that she spends way less on her clothes thatn Sarah Palin. Palin always looks classy and sophisticated, the kind of person you can trust....

Trust....? what is that supposed to mean. We can't trust someone who has already been found guilty of abusing her power. As for Palin's clothes... If she dressed "classy" before the RNC had to dress her there wouldn't have been a need to, right?

I liked Michelle before, but now I like her even more! She seems to be the type of woman that watches her spending. That is EXACTLY the type of family we need in the white house. Someone used to working and living on a budget and making it work for her family. Which also means that Barack is used to being on a budget too. When you work hard for the money you make, you spend it more wisely. On the other hand, in Sarah Palin's case, when you are given hundreds of thousands of dollars for you and your family to look the part, you aren't gonna watch your pennies like the rest of us do. I'm sure Cindy McCain and Sarah Palin have spent more of clothes this election than all the homes cost on my block. We need a little bit of Michelle's mindset in the whitehouse for a change!!

I agree with you amybethparsons. We do need someone in the leadership role who understand the purpose of money. McCain and Palin tried to fool us by presenting the $150,000 price tag of the close as a "business decision" and the less fortunate would benefit after the election, but how many poor people do you know that can afford second hand clothes from Saks and Neimans? Are we so caught up into stuff that we can't see substance? Yes I agree appearance is important, however to be honest all the suits I've seen Gov. Palin wear haven't been impressive at all. Looks like the RNC wasted a lot of money.
