Michelle Obama's Offensive Google Image Explained
Google Buys Ad to Explain Racist Michelle Obama Pic
An offensive image popping up on a Google search of "Michelle Obama" has had to be explained by Google itself via a special ad. Think it's overreacting? Think again, because this image might make you lose your lunch. While the first was pulled due to malware, another one has been posted on a legit site... and now that The Huffington Post has a hold of it, we're doomed.
Not only is the image, which depicts Michelle Obama as a tweed-wearing primate, popping up in Google search results, but it is ranked highly, making it nearly impossible to miss. The Huffington Post featured a screenshot of the image search page, in which the offending item sits at spot #1. Above it, the Google ads titled "Offensive Search Results" appears right over the image, stating: "Sometimes our search results can be offensive. We agree."
.
The longer explanation claims that "We assure you that the views expressed by such sites are not in any way endorsed by Google. [...] We apologize if you've had an upsetting experience using Google. We hope you understand our position regarding offensive results."
SearchEngineLand confirmed in an article that this isn't the first time that Google's taken out an ad to point out offensive results are not supported by Google, like when a search pulls up images for "Jew."
The Huffington Post sure went to town with the image size, didn't they? Nice.
