Michelle Williams Splits with Boyfriend

Michelle Williams met Heath Ledger on the set of Brokeback Mountain and the lovebirds had a baby together. Williams and Ledger split in 2007 and she started dating Spike Jonze only 6 months after Heath Ledger's death. Now, she has announced her split with Jonze.

Williams told Vogue that they broke up because of life circumstances. "The timing was impossible," Williams admits. "I thought falling in love again was the only thing that was going to save me from the pain. This erroneous idea: It just makes things more complicated."

"I was holding it together by a string and a paper clip in the fall and winter," she tells Vogue. "I didn't know if I could keep it all together ... You console yourself by saying it's all a deepening process. But it's weird. After the first year, the pain is less intense -- it's less immediate. But the magical thinking goes away too. And that's a whole new reckoning."

Michelle Williams also talks about dating as a single mom and said, "I obviously don't know how to do it."

This sounds like a difficult time for Williams. Grief cannot be rushed and you just have to go through it. It's corny to say, but time really is the only thing that heals these wounds. Imagine breaking up with the father of your child and having him suddenly die a few months later. That's a lot to deal with. Then, Williams was surely putting all her attention into making sure daughter Matilda was ok. It must have been tough for her to take any time out for herself to grieve.
