Mitt Romney Bails on Nickelodeon Presidential Candidates Special

Mitt Romney isn't winning any Nickelodeon fans over with his decision to blow off the Q&A special Kids Pick the President.

Good thing they're not old enough to vote.

President Obama has done the show, where kids submit questions to the candidates and then make their choice for president based on the answers.

Romney, it seems, didn't have time to do the Nickelodeon gig, with Deputy National Press Secretary Adam Fetcher explaining to TMZ.com, "It's no surprise Romney decided to play hooky. Kids demand details, and I'm sure they want some answers on why Romney could increase their class sizes, eliminate their teacher's jobs, raise taxes on their families and slash funding for Big Bird."

According to Kids Pick the President host and executive producer Linda Ellerbee, Romney's decision to pass on the show "disses" kids.

Kids Pick the President: The Candidates airs on October 15 on Nickelodeon. After the show, an online poll allows viewers to make their choice.

Ellerbee commented that Romney's folks said "he simply didn't have time. He couldn't fit it in his schedule."

Ellerbee noted that missing the event is a disservice to kids, adding, "That's several million kids who actually want to get involved in the democratic process. They don't deserve to be dissed."

The Nick special has been airing since 1992, with the kids' polling results matching the presidential election outcome five out of six times, according to Ellerbee.

There's still time for Romney to get in on the special, however, with Ellerbee saying he has until Monday to change his mind.

The special looks at the candidates' takes on bullying, gun control, jobs, illegal immigration, and same-sex marriage.
