Actress Josie Maran Has Farm Water Birth

Actress Josie Maran recently gave birth at home. A water birth. In her backyard.

Maran decided to have a home birth, but deliver in her farm's backyard.

Maran wrote recently about her decision for a home water birth, explaining, "When I was pregnant with my daughter Rumi, everyone seemed to have an opinion on how I should give birth. As soon as I started researching my choices, I realized that the most natural way of giving birth was going to be best for me."

Her first daughter was born at home, she explains, sharing it was "outside, and it was an incredible experience. I'm planning the same kind of birth for my second child. If you want my advice (!), I'd suggest that you explore all your options and then decide what'll work best for you (and convince the others involved, if necessary)."

It sounds like her birth plan worked out just the way she had hoped, as BabyCenter.com reports that she delivered via water birth after a four-hour labor in the farm's backyard.

Maran tweeted a photo of her new baby, writing: "She's here!! Heavenly creature."

Maran is enjoying life on the farm, writing recently: "Outside our windows, we have horses to our left and farms to our right. Being here is reminding me that eating local isn't some trendy big-city idea. It's the way people in the country have always eaten, and still do."
