Morgan Freeman's Divorce Finalized
Freeman's infidelity scandal turns new chapter.
It's more than two years that we've been following the Morgan Freeman marital saga, which was set off by Freeman's August 2008 car accident in which he and a female companion were injured. Shortly thereafter, it was announced that Freeman and his wife were splitting -- and this past Wednesday, the divorce was put to rest.
A judge in Tallahatchie, Miss. entered the divorce decree on Sept. 15 so that the marriage between Morgan Freeman and Myrna Colley-Lee, a theater designer, has ended. Freeman and Colley-Lee had been married for 26 years, since 1984, and Freeman adopted Colley-Lee's daughter from a previous relationship. Freeman and Colley-Lee also have a second child together (Morgan Freeman has four children in all, including two sons from a previous relationship).
Myrna Colley-Lee was said to have decided to split from Morgan Freeman after his August 2008 car accident in which a female companion, Demaris Meyer, was hurt. Meyer was thought to be in an extramarital relationship with Morgan Freeman, but she went on to file a lawsuit against him because she claimed he was drinking (authorities hadn't considered alcohol a factor in the crash). Meyer also said that she had been accused of being "the other woman" in Freeman's life following the accident. Morgan Freeman finally settled the lawsuit in November 2009.

The scandal was clearly too much for Freeman's marriage, as his business partner Bill Luckett announced shortly after the car crash that Freeman and Colley-Lee had formally separated.
After Morgan Freeman's divorce was finalized this week, Freeman's lawyer William R. Wright said, "It was done without a trial. Everybody is glad it's over." Both Freeman and Colley-Lee live near Tallahatchie, Miss.
