The Knicks Forward Was Fined $50,000 for Using Offensive, Derogatory Language

New York Knicks forward Amar'e Stoudemire has learned a very expensive lesson in anger management: the NBA star has been slapped with a $50,000 fine by the NBA for using an anti-gay slur in a tweet to a disgruntled Knocks fan.

In response to a fan's tweet to him that he needs to come back stronger for next season, Stoudemire replied: "F**k you. I don't have to do anything f*g."

It was those last three letters that sparked the $50K fine, meaning each letter cost him an estimated $66,666 each.

In addition to the fine, Stoudemire also issued a statement with an apology for the offensive language, saying "I should have known better and there is no excuse," MSN reports.

Stoudemire also reportedly sent the target of his original tweet a direct message apology, writing, "I apologize for what I said earlier. I just got off the plane and had time to think about it. Sorry bro!! No Excuses. Won't happen again."

Stoudemire may have been feeling the sting of his Knicks losing in the NBA play-offs to eventual league champions, the Miami Heat.

Either way, we're guessing he'll be a little more careful with each and every letter he tweets from now on.
