Natalie Portman Is Thor's First Love
The gods have spoken.
Natalie Portman, already famous in the SciFi world for movies like V For Vendetta and the Star Wars franchise, has officially signed up for Thor, Marvel's latest comic book adaptation.
She'll play young scientist Jane Foster who falls in love with Thor, an arrogant warrior who is cast down to Earth as punishment for starting a war between gods. But on Earth he finds his calling as a protector when Loki, the god of mishief, opens the gates of evil.
The film won't be released until mid-2011, but that doesn't mean the studio isn't planning ahead. Playing Thor himself will be Chris Hemsworth, better known as Captain Kirk's father in the new Star Trek movie. And now with Portman onboard, producers are excited about having real talent.
"We wanted to avoid that syndrome of just because the hair is up and they're wearing glasses means they're smart," said one producer. "We wanted somebody that can have the chemistry that the best of our Marvel couples have had."
Or, if you can't bear to wait two whole years for Thor, check out Portman later this year in Brothers, opposite Jake Gyllenhaal and Tobey Maguire.
