Portman's possible role similar to "Castaway."

Film bizzers who have seen Natalie Portman's new film, "Black Swan," are clamoring to line Portman up for upcoming movie projects. A new report reveals that Portman's just been offered a revolutionary female role -- that Angelina Jolie didn't want -- in an upcoming 3D space flick that's budgeted at $80 million.

Angelina Jolie is considered one of the riskiest film actresses in Hollywood because of her penchant for headlining action roles that male actors historically play. Jolie recently vacated the lead role in "Gravity," a space film about "a woman stranded on a space station after satellite debris slams into it and wipes out the rest of the crew," reports Reuters.

Robert Downey Jr. has signed on in a supporting role, but the moment Angelina Jolie decided she didn't want the part, casting directors and the film's producer began salivating over the ever-rising Natalie Portman. Portman, 29, is said to be reviewing the "Gravity" script and will be granted the role without a screentest if she decides to take it. That's huge!

It's said the closest thing  to Natalie Portman's potential "Gravity" part that we can imagine is that it's similar to Tom Hanks' character in "Castaway." Meanwhile, directors are said to have auditioned Blake Lively and Scarlett Johansson, who both fell far short for the role.
