'New Moon' Breaks All-Time Record For Midnight Run
New Moon celebrates yet another box office superlative.
Not only did the Twilight Saga: New Moon break the record for highest advance ticket sales of all time, it also splashed out every other midnight release of all time at the box office Thursday night.
Fans around North America paid a killer $26.3 million to see New Moon at midnight. In our lifetime films like Dick Tracy and Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince have created midnight madness in the theater, but even the latest Harry Potter came out to just $22.2 million this past summer. Next to New Moon, Potter may appear impotent. (And is the competition making Potter's Daniel Radcliffe turn to some vices?)
.
We reported that many critics who caught the midnight release called it a letdown, saying there's too much emo and not enough Robert Pattinson. Friday afternoon the BBC gave it "three hot dogs" out of four, demonstrating that even Pattinson's patriots aren't as excited about New Moon as they were for Twilight.
