New York's Naked Hotel Stuns Onlookers
What's the room service like?
Hotels are supposed to offer quiet, peaceful and private rooms. But for some people, that's just too boring. Take New York City's Standard Hotel, which is making a name for itself lately with guests that flaunt their birthday suits in front of onlookers.
Owned by hotel magnate and Uma Thurman's ex-boyfriend Andre Balazs, the Standard overlooks Manhattan's High Line park. There, park-goers receive quite the surprise as they look up to see dozens of rooms without curtains, filled with occupants who walk around completely naked.
The hotel's website, since cleaned up, reportedly encouraged guests to enagage in naughty behavior in the privacy of their own rooms, and to leave the curtains open for everyone below to watch.
Some passersby find it to be a bit inappropriate, but others think it's good for business. One local restaurant owner likes the attention that it brings. "It is actually kind of good this is happening," he said. "It's drawing people to the area."
More recently however, the Standard has tried to clean up its image a bit by attempting to discourage offensive behavior. They've tried to remind guests of their window's transparency.
