Nicci Nix, Italian princess, is not Italian at all -- she's a U.S. reality TV vet.

What will Simon Cowell say. Last Wednesday night's episode of American Idol featured a memorable and lovable audition at the show's close. Nicci Nix was the 22-year-old knock-out contestant who told the judges in an Italian accent that she flew from Florence to Frankfurt to Denver to audition for Idol. However reporters have investigated, and Nicci Nix isn't from Italy at all. Here's the scoop on the Cali resident who's groping for her 15 minutes of fame.

Our friends at TMZ published the discovery just as the weekend hit, after some Web scouring. Nicci Nix has appeared on at least five different reality television shows before, including Making the Band, Fear Factor, Date My Mom and Next. On Fear Factor she told the host that she was 19-year-old Nicci Palmeri from Pleasant Hill, California, and as TMZ notes, she boasted no trace of Italian accent. (She also broke out into an awkward song to prove to the host and her competitors that she was a real singer...not so much.)

Nicci Nix also hosts a splashed-out MySpace page featuring her music videos, charity appearances and bio which makes it completely apparent that she's not the Italian-bred princess she suggested. It was her claimed 14-hour trek that impressed Simon Cowell most about her...wonder what he'll have to say now.

Meanwhile, no doubt American Idol can deal with a little spoiling...but with what Taylor Swift's record label has said about the show -- as well as how Kelly Clarkson responded -- maybe Nicci Nix was one embarrassment Idol could've done without for now. Watch now-23-year-old Nicci Nix's high-pitched American Idol audition that fooled the nation -- good English for an Italian native, right?

Wow are you guys stupid. Nicci is in fact Italian. I don't think we need to go into her entire life history, that is her own personal business. Was Nicci in Italy and flew in from Italy to audition??? YES. Would you like to see pics of her in Italy? She did in fact fly in from Italy, she never said she was from Italy. The stupid A.I. producers insisted (TO MAKE THEIR OWN SHOW MORE INTERESTING) that they say she was from Italy. If you listen/watch her Golden Ticket Interview, she clearly says she is from California. Wow, don't you look like idiots now? Was she on those other shows? Yes. For a young girl trying to get exposure to sell her upcoming music album, she did was she could. Thanks for reporting a bunch of crap. Nicci is not a phony in any sense of the word.

Thanks thetruth, for commenting. Our colleagues at TMZ were the first to break this story. As an Italian-American myself, I'd be upset if someone doubted my heritage so I understand your frustration on Nicci's behalf, but watching the video back, nowhere does it state that she's from California. Definitely gives the impression she was purporting to be from Italy. Was she studying there when flew back to audition for Idol? Any more info you have to help clarify, I'd appreciate. Wow does American Idol get people fired up, eh gang?! I hope Nicci can help us address this story -- I actually loved her audition.

another example of sensationalist blogging with no ACTUAL journalistic integrity or research skills whatsoever. Yes Nicci was living in Italy at the time she flew in to audition for the show, which is what she says in the audition. NEVER DID SHE SAY SHE WAS AN ITALIAN BORN CITIZEN as you imply. Furthermore, a lot of people, myself included, pick up a vocal accent or tweak when I travel. It's not unusual. Personally, I don't think she sounded like she had an Italian accent at all... maybe a little weird twinge to her voice, but as someone with Italian heritage myself, that is NOT what an Italian accent sounded like. I gotta say, everyone who says they have scoured the Internet or down some digging or whatever is so full of crap. You type her name in Google and her MySpace comes up near the top. If anybody ACTUALLY did digging, they would have done more than ride on TMZ's posts and seen that she did in fact go to Italy and posted the pictures up there. And no one had to dig to find her bio or anything else... it's all right there on the MySpace! Now, granted, the voice change is weird and should be explained, but instead of sensationalistic headlines and unfounded commentary, why don't you attempt to do actual research and give us something that's not a bunch of lazy rehashing of TMZ's hack research.

Thank you, thetruth and areajournalist for calling out these idiots who are spreading these false and vicious attacks on this girl. As for wanting to see the video where she says she is from California, it is right on Americanidol.com. It didn't take too much "journalistic research" to find it. In the clip the show decided to air, she simply states "currently, I am living in Florence, Italy". Since she stated, on camera, to A.I officials that she is from California, I don't see how anyone can say she tried to "fool" the judges or anyone else. Also, do the rules of American Idol state that a contestant cannot have appeared on another show previously? If not, then WHO CARES!

We were definitely excited when we saw Nicci Nix audition for American Idol and wish her the very best in the competition. Below is a link to the music video we helped produce with Christian Strickland. http://www.BlareMedia.net/musicvids.php
