Obama Stars in Back-to-School TV Program
By order of the President.
What do singer Kelly Clarkson, basketball star Lebron James and President Barack Obama have in common? They will all appear next month in a back-to-school special that urges kids to study hard and pursue their dreams.
"So as this new school year begins, I urge you to set goals for your own education: to study hard and get involved in your school, to try new things and find something you're passionate about," Obama says, in a quote from the special.
"And that's how our nation will get ahead," he continues, "by ensuring that every American gets a world-class education, from preschool to college to a career."
The 30-minute documentary is part of a new education intiative, called "Get Schooled," and is sponsored by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and Viacom Inc. President Obama shares its goal of improving the American education system.
In the program, viewers will get a behind-the-scenes look at the people who make the careers of famous people work. Kelly Clarkson's music director, Jason Halbert, Lebron James' marketer, Latesha Williams, and Obama's speechwriter, Sarah Hurwitz, all talk about their times in school and how it helped them get to where they are today.
The special will air Sept. 8th at 8 pm on all the Viacom networks: BET, MTV, VH1, CMT, Comedy Central, Spike TV and Nickelodeon.
