Obamas Attend Biden Funeral Tuesday
President and First Lady attend funeral for Joe Biden's mother.
Wilmington, Delaware has had severe traffic backups all day Tuesday, as this morning at 11 a.m. Eastern, the funeral for Vice President Joe Biden's mother Jean was held there.
Jean Biden's funeral took place with a service at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Wilmington, which is her son Joe Biden's current place of residence. A Biden funeral wake was also held Monday evening from 4 until 8 p.m.
The Obamas arrived, of course, to crowds of onlookers and media. However it's said that the Biden funeral was held as a strictly private event and that security was incredibly tight. Parking was completely unavailable for attendees, as the church is said to have arranged shuttles from the University of Delaware's campus.
Sources have not stated whether Joe Biden spoke at his mother's funeral, but it's reported that Barack Obama was not expected to say any words.
It's said that Catherine "Jean" Biden passed away on Friday, January 8, 2010 at the age of 92. Reports only suggested that she had been "seriously ill." Biden mentioned his mother in an address at the 2008 Democratic National Convention, saying she was always supportive and encouraging of him, even when he suffered the most vulnerable points in his life.
