Penis Size DOES Matter, Study Finds

But Only to Some Women, and Only for Certain Types of Orgasms

Sorry fellas, if this bursts your bubble today, but a new study in The Journal of Sexual Medicine reports that yes, penis size does matter to some women, especially if they're trying to achieve an orgasm vaginally.

The study found that women are more likely to experience vaginal orgasms with men who have larger penises, while women who, in general, prefer "penile-vaginal" sex versus various other types of sex, also prefer larger penises.

"Male anxiety about penis size may not reflect internalized, culturally arbitrary masculine stereotypes, but an accurate appreciation that size matters to many women, just as men feel legitimate anxiety when they enter the mating market about their intelligence, personality traits, sense of humor, social status, height, wealth, and other traits known to be favored by women across cultures," said researcher Stuart Brody, a psychologist at the University of the West of Scotland.

("University of the West of Scotland" … they couldn't go with the far less cumbersome "University of West Scotland"?)

Anyhoo, back to the penises … the new study, unsurprisingly with the ongoing debate on this topic, has its detractors.

"There's such variability in preference," Barry Komisaruk, who researches female sexual response at (the simply-named) Rutgers University, told LiveScience.com (via NBC News).

"There are so many different factors," Komisaruk said, emphasizing the study's premise that women prefer to orgasm vaginally, which he says isn't, of course, necessarily true. "Once it gets to the kind of specifics that they're talking about, I get wary."

Wary is a good word to describe all the back and forth about penis size, which, as the story notes, becomes even more complicated when paired with discussion about the specifics of female orgasms and various nerve locations and the psychology of sexual satisfaction.
