Portia de Rossi Joins Cast of 'The Munsters' Reboot

The cast of The Munsters reboot is proving to be very interesting -- Portia de Rossi just joined the cast.

De Rossi will play the family matriarch, Lily Munster, on NBC's Mockingbird Lane.

Is this a good casting choice?

No doubt naysayers will have a field day with de Rossi being cast as Lily, but Mockingbird Lane is looking more and more appealing to me.

De Rossi has amazing comedic chops, having shown her prowess in shows like Arrested Development and Better Off Ted ... plus, I can't wait to see her in the signature Lily Munster wig.

Did de Rossi get her hair chopped off to better fit in the wig? It's got to make that part of getting prepped for the character that much easier (plus, she looks fantastic with the short style).

Lily Munster is a vampire, married to Herman Munster, who will be played by Jerry O'Connell. Also an interesting casting choice.

Look for Mockingbird Lane to air mid-season, with Pushing Daisies creator Bryan Fuller helming the series, and the amazingly talented Eddie Izzard on board as Grandpa.

Fuller promises a darker and more dramatic retelling of The Munsters, telling EW.com, "The script is such a dramatic departure from the tone and style of the original show. If we continued to call the show The Munsters, people are just going to think we're doing The Munsters. We're doing a reinvention and re-imagination of this property."

Other Mockingbird Lane casting news: Mason Cook will play Eddie Munster and Charity Wakefield will play the family's cousin.
