'Precious' and 'Up in the Air' Lead SAG Nominations
And the nomination goes to...
Awards season is finally rolling, and the Screen Actor's Guild wants to join in on the fun. Nominees for the 2010 SAG awards were announced today, with expected favorites like George Clooney's Up in the Air and Precious garnering the most nods.
Along with Quentin Tarantino's Inglourious Basterds, the two films are the heavy favorites heading into awards season. Each has three nominations from SAG, while the Iraq War drama The Hurt Locker and the yet-to-be-released musical Nine received two each.
Instead of a category for best film like in those other awards shows, The Screen Actor's Guild Awards are, of course, for the actors and by the actors. That means the big catagory recognizes the best ensemble cast. The Hurt Locker, Inglourious Basterds, Precious and Nine were all recognized in that category.
In the best actress category, Gabourey Sidibe is nominated for her performance in Precious, alongside favorite Sandra Bullock in The Blind Side, Meryl Streep in Julie & Julia, Helen Mirren in The Last Station, and Carey Mulligan in An Education.
Best actor nominations include George Clooney for his role in Up in the Air, along with Morgan Freeman in Invictus, Jeremy Renner in The Hurt Locker, Jeff Bridges in Crazy Heart and Colin Firth in A Single Man.
TV dramas nominated for best ensemble cast were The Closer, Mad Men, True Blood, Dexter and The Good Wife. The Comedy category included Curb Your Enthusiasm, Modern Family, The Office, 30 Rock and Glee.
