Princess Diana Hair Jam?
Disgusting news!
Some things are arty and interesting, others are merely in poor taste. This sounds like the latter: a British artist bought some of the late Princess Diana's hair in an eBay auction and developed a special jelly with it. Gagging? So are we!
Caterer Sam Bompas' jelly is currently available at the Barbican in London, where you can even pick some up for yourself for about $7.50. We know you're thinking "Back story, please!" Here you go.
"Sam Bompas, who founded catering company Bompas and Parr, says a tiny speck of the late princess of Wales' hair has been infused with gin, then combined with milk and sugar to make the preserve, which tastes like condensed milk," the Associated Press describes.
Sounds sick, right? Considering that the hair was purchased on eBay for only $10, there's a good chance that you'll just be eating barbershop hair instead of Princess Diana's. I'm not pointing fingers, but what percentage of celeb collectibles on eBay are actually real?
In addition, this jam seems exploitative and in poor taste. That's not stopping people from picking it up, though... already 500 jars have been purchased in the Barbican! Bompas claims that he's trying to get people to think about what's in their food and how it's marketed.
Mostly, I'm thinking about what a tremendous jerk he looks like. Have some respect, Bompas!
