Puma Goes Green With 'Clever Little Bag'
And they ditch the shoe box
Besides the handful of people who keep each and every pair of shoes in their shoe box, who actually keeps those things? Every time I buy a pair of shoes, the shoe box goes right in the trashcan. Puma realizes this and in an effort to be green, they're ditching the shoe box and using a clever little bag.
Puma spent 21 months developing a concept that would get rid of the shoe box and help the company stay green. In fact, according to The Telegraph, they went through 2,000 ideas and 40+ packaging prototypes. Yves Behar came up with the final idea.
Starting in the second half of next year, Puma will be selling their shoes in cardboard frames wrapped in reusable bags, which they're calling the "clever little bag." This will reduce Puma's paper use by 65% and should reduce their yearly water, energy and diesel consumption on the manufacturing level by more than 60%.
According to Puma in a promotional video they created, "Boxes are everywhere, boxes have been around longer than the wheel, our lives are filled with them, we work in boxes. For a long time boxes made our lives easier. But at some point boxes became a problem." We think it's great that Puma is doing their part to make the world a better place. Not to mention, we'd much rather have a cute little reusable bag to tote around than we would a boring old shoe box!
