Regis and Kathie Lee: Reuniting for the 'Today' Show? [POLL]
The Ann Curry Today Debacle Could Lead to Regis Philbin and Kathie Lee Gifford Reuniting as Co-Hosts for the 4th Hour of Today
The Ann Curry Today show mess is just embarrassing for NBC -- really, NBC, she deserves better, and less public, treatment than she's getting -- but it looks like one good thing might come out of it: a possible reunion of former morning talk show co-hosts Regis Philbin and Kathie Lee Gifford.
Philbin, who left his gig as co-host of Live! With Regis and Kelly last year, recently made a one-time guest appearance as Gifford's co-host for the fourth hour of Today. But, if the following scenario unfolds, Reeg could make a more permanent claim on the seat next to Kathie Lee:
Various media sources -- including FoxNews.com -- are reporting that Curry will get a $10 million payday from NBC to leave her Today show job, this week.
If that happens, the reports further suggest, Gifford's current co-host, Hoda Kotb, will likely take over Curry's spot as Matt Lauer's co-host on the first three hours of Today, leaving a spot on the fourth hour open, which would be filled by Philbin.
Philbin and Gifford were co-hosts of Live! with Regis and Kathie Lee from 1988 to 2000, when then-soap star Kelly Ripa took over for Gifford. Philbin has made it clear he doesn't want to be retired completely from showbiz after leaving his job at ABC last year, but he won't come cheap: he reportedly made $20 million a year on Live! with Regis and Kelly.
As for Curry, NBC is likely to make an announcement about her future with Today and the network this week. While it's almost certain she will not continue on Today, sources report she may continue at NBC -- after the payoff of her contract -- as a foreign correspondent.
Would you tune in to see Regis and Kathie Lee (again) every morning?
