Robert Downey Jr: Playing Sherlock Holmes Was Tough
Sherlock Holmes star Robert Downey Jr has said playing the legendary detective is the "toughest job" he's ever had. Downey Jr, who has previously played an action hero in the box-office hit Iron Man, will soon be seen on-screen playing the role of British investigator, Sherlock Holmes.
The Oscar-winning actor, who stars in Guy Ritchie's adaptation of the classic, said: "Sherlock Holmes is easily the toughest job I've ever had." Talking about his previous role, Tony Stark in Iron Man, Downey Jr told MTV News: "Playing Tony Stark, this super genius, people say, 'You're so cool. "He is cool, and sometimes if I get pumped-up enough and take enough creatine, then I can look cool for up to 12 seconds at a time. "With Sherlock, it was very different. He's a much more centered and focused person, which works for me. I'm a character actor." The 44-year-old continued to add how Holmes is also a martial-arts expert and a "total bada**". He said: "He thinks through all eventualities, possibilities and counterattacks when he's fighting, so he actually has the fight worked out before he starts." Starring alongside Downey Jr is Holmes' love interest, The Notebook actress Rachel McAdams, and his trusty sidekick, Watson, played by Jude Law. Sherlock Holmes hits UK cinemas on December 26.
