Twilight Saga Makes Teen Girls Think Twice?
Considering the staggering number of girls who would drop anything to do Robert Pattinson, it's amazing that the UK's Daily Telegraph says that the Twilight Saga has been working wonders on teen abstinence. This must all be in theory; guys who dress like R-Pattz and shuffle 'round London are probably knee-deep in ladies to woo and win over.
Considering that Pattinson was protected by 25 body guards on the set of New Moon, it's hard to imagine that his fans are getting worked up over abstinence.
Robert Pattinson explains to the Telegraph:
"The success of the Twilight books comes from the fact that fans can lust after Edward and yet, certainly in the first book, there's no actual sexual contact between him and the series heroine. Twilight is a big metaphor for sexual abstinence, and yet it's erotic underneath. There are so many elements in the story which are sexy."
Who wasn't screeching "Do it! Dooo it!" at the end of Stephenie Meyer's Eclipse? It couldn't have just been me. At least Pattinson's commented on his allure, saying that much of it has to do with unattainable Edward, not with himself:
"There are all these screaming fans around but if you talk to one for five minutes, the illusion would be gone. Often it is in imaginary thing that they want, not the reality."
