Robert Pattinson's Ego "Can't Cope" With Twilight Craze
Robert Pattinson insists the fandom confuses him.
Robert Pattinson may be the most beautiful man in the world right now, but he swears he doesn't know it. Pattinson's currently on the non-stop publicity circuit for New Moon and revealing the secrets of his behind-the-scenes persona, which he says is such an oddball that it reaches "the point of ridiculousness sometimes."
Pattinson has revealed that he didn't think he had what it took to play Edward Cullen when he first grew acquainted with the lead Twilight saga character. He says he was preparing to play an "alpha-male hero type" but that when Summit cast Kristen Stewart as Bella Swan, Rob saw that the film would be more organic and real and that Edward would have visible faults. But, Pattinson says, even now that he has perfected his character, he doesn't get why fans are Rob-sessed. He says he "just wanted to make an American film" and do an amazing job.
And now the craze scares him: "It worries me, because the whole Twilight thing keeps getting bigger and bigger, and now it's so big that even my own ego can't cope with it." Huh?! Why not? "A certain amount of success you can mentally deal with, but there's a point where you think, 'Jesus Christ, what is this? I'm not that great!'"
Um, yeah you are. Anyway, Pattinson also said recently that he stresses relentlessly about his portrayal of Edward Cullen: "I get quite obsessive about things, and possessive as well," he says. "I have very, very specific ideas about how I want to do my work and how I want to be perceived, to the point of ridiculousness sometimes."
.
And he wants to call all the shots about how the public sees him, because get this: Robert Pattinson doesn't have his own publicist! Is he showing up to all these junket interviews on time? Rob reveals,"I don't listen to anyone else. That's why I don't have a publicist -- I can't stand it if someone's trying to tell me to do something which might be a mistake."
Robert Pattinson can't do anything wrong...we know you agree. Win your chance to see him live here! Plus, Rob may be a control freak, but he confesses that he's no Romeo.
