100 greatest singers of all time
.

Sadly, we are not on the list.

It's good to be Aretha Franklin. The Queen of Soul tops Rolling Stone's just released list of the 100 Greatest Singers of All Time. Joining her at the apex of song are Ray Charles, Elvis Presley, Sam Cooke, and John Lennon. Nice to see the lady in the lead!

The mag surveyed 179 musicians, producers, Rolling Stone editors, and industry insiders to compile the rockin' roundup. Putting an interesting twist on the list, Rolling Stone had artists like Mary J. Blige, Alicia Keys, Bono, and Billy Joel write the entries about the greats.

Head to rollingstone.com to check out the full list and sample playlists of the Greatest Singers.

This list is pretty remiss when it comes to singers that don't line up with Rolling Stone's usual pantheon of greats ... I would mention these as a possible top 10 : Barbra Streisand Patti Austin Minnie Riperton Janis Siegel Al Jarreau Oleta Adams Ella Fitzgerald Karen Carpenter Peggy Lee Patti LaBelle thanks for reading this ...
