Insider reveals Ryan's "seeking comfort" in an ex.

Ryan Reynolds and Scarlett Johansson shocked us Tuesday afternoon by announcing their split. The pair said they planned to "leave" their relationship "with love"...and a source is saying Ryan may be taking that literally. He's been getting close with an ex-girlfriend surrounding the separation from Scarlett  -- here are details.

Ryan Reynolds and Scarlett Johansson married in a quiet ceremony in Canada in September 2008. Almost immediately upon their uniting lives for eternity, rumors of discontent began to swirl the couple. Scarlett may best known among celebrity sites for taking herself too seriously and her classic pout-scowl, while Ryan always seems easy-going in his continued rise to fame (the Sexiest Man Alive thing? Right. Case in point.)

And Ryan joked recently when he was named People's Sexiest Man Alive that maybe it would improve how Scarlett bosses him around the house...indeed all was not well. A man needs a woman who sees the hero in him, and Scarlett's ways appear to have been, shall we say, a little emasculating.

A Johansson-Reynolds insider says Scarlett's "been unhappy for a while," and Ryan has been seeking affection elsewhere: "Ryan has been reaching out to an ex the past few months." Whoa -- was a little infidelity involved in this "civil" split? Nah, says the pal: "He is seeking comfort, but not in a romantic or sexual way." The insider also said Ry has "confided in friends" regarding the breakup.

Really, who can blame him? And according to reports, Scarlett and Ryan are trying to do this divorce thing right. In Tuesday's breakup announcement, they said, "We entered our relationship with love and it's with love and kindness we leave it."
